The future of heavy transport took centre stage at our Derrimut dealership as guests gathered for our exclusive Volvo Electric Truck Drive Day and seminar. Held on Wednesday, February 25, our event brought together fleet operators, sustainability leaders and transport professionals for a hands‑on look at Volvo’s electric truck range and a deep dive into the realities of fleet electrification.

After enjoying barista-made coffee upon arrival, guests made their way to the conference room for the beginning of the seminar. Our very own Joe Di Santo, Market Development Manager for Emerging Technologies & Alternative Fuels, kicked off the day with an introduction on how CMV Truck & Bus are adopting these new technologies and offering a complete electric solution for customers, in conjunction with industry partners. Joe then introduced the first of three guest speakers for the day, setting the stage for a lineup of industry experts who shared practical insights into the transition to electric transport.

Tim Washington, Co‑Founder of JET Charge, drew on his extensive experience in charging infrastructure to explain how organisations across Australia are already electrifying their fleets. His examples highlighted the importance of planning, site assessment and scalable charging solutions that grow with operational needs.

Dr Richa Vijayraj, Director at Impact HQ Australia, shifted the conversation toward commercial value. She unpacked how electric truck investment can be translated into measurable sustainability outcomes, from carbon reporting to customer‑aligned environmental commitments. Her perspective helped attendees understand the broader business case behind electrification, beyond emissions alone.

Ruby Diaz, Manager for Environmental Sustainability at Linfox Logistics, brought a practical, operator‑focused lens to the discussion. She shared lessons learned from integrating electric trucks into one of Australia’s largest logistics fleets, offering guidance on smart charging, safety considerations and maintaining performance and commercial viability during the transition. Her insights resonated strongly with operators looking for grounded, real‑world advice.

We also had the privilege of hearing from Tim Camilleri, Director for E-Mobility Solutions at Volvo Group Australia (VGA) on how Volvo electric trucks are revolutionising the transport industry and investment that VGA has made into developing world-renowned technology for their FM, FH, FMX, FE and FL Electric Trucks.

Volvo Electric Drive Day & Seminar

Attendees had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of Volvo’s latest electric trucks, experiencing their smooth performance, impressive torque and quiet operation firsthand. For many, it was the first time driving a heavy‑duty electric vehicle, and the experience helped demystify what electric transport feels like in real‑world conditions. The trucks demonstrated how far the technology has come, offering a compelling combination of power, safety and efficiency that left a strong impression on those exploring future fleet options.

Over a light lunch and refreshments, guests continued the conversation, taking the opportunity to ask questions, compare experiences and explore the trucks up close. Many of the discussions centred on unpacking common myths and misconceptions – range, charging times, infrastructure requirements and maintenance. Our CMV Truck & Bus team helped clarify these topics, providing practical guidance and reinforcing that electrification is not only achievable but increasingly advantageous for a wide range of transport applications.

The event underscored how rapidly the industry is evolving and how essential it is for businesses to stay informed as new technologies reshape the transport landscape. Volvo’s electric truck range, supported by our dedicated service network, offered attendees a clear view of what a more sustainable and commercially resilient fleet could look like.
