CDC Victoria welcomed aboard the first 33 out of 50 Volvo hybrid buses to their fleet. The Volvo B5L Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient and reliable hybrid solution in the Australian market, delivering impressive fuel savings, reduced emissions and improved passenger experience. CDC Victoria are committed to investing in sustainable solutions and improved public transport, making the Volvo B5L Hybrid a perfect fit.
We were privileged to recently attend the launch of these fantastic buses, held at CDC Victoria’s Wyndham depot. Also in attendance was the Minister for Public Transport/State member for Williamstown - the Hon, Melissa Horne MP as the Guest of Honour, Deputy Mayor of Wyndham, Walter Villagonzalo and distinguished guests, partners, staff and drivers from CDC Victoria, all celebrating the official launch the largest fleet of Hybrids in Australia.
With 17 more hybrid buses to be added into the fleet by 2022, 1 of 4 metro buses will be a Volvo hybrid bus across 90 suburbs in Victoria. CMV Truck & Bus are proud to assist CDC Victoria by offering a tailored service and support program for this fantastic and innovative product which not only offers cleaner emissions, reduced noise pollution and sustainable transport solutions, but also an improved passenger experience and public health.
Volvo Australia’s hybrid technology is designed to operate in all climates, featuring active cooling systems, delivering a 30–40% reduction in CO2 and a 50% drop in hazardous emissions. The Volvo B5L bus is designed to switch off the diesel engine when arriving at a bus stop, which offers not only a quieter experience but reduced levels of noise, emissions and fuel consumption. The bus resumes its journey in electric mode and switches into diesel mode once it reaches over 20km/h for ultimate performance. As a result, this means hybrid buses will use 12g less CO2 per passenger mile contributing a 50 percent reduction in particulates and NOx. CMV Truck & Bus Volvo Bus Branch Manager, Darren Cottle states that “the Volvo B5L hybrid offers up to 40% savings on fuel which will enhance CDC Victoria’s service and productivity.” With over 4,000 hybrid buses in commercial operation, Volvo Buses has proven solid figures on genuine fuel savings from diverse parts of the world.
