Dale Jackson Announces Retirement from CMV Truck & Bus

  • 06 Jun 2019

Last year Dale Jackson informed me of his intention to retire as Senior General Manager responsible for both CMV Truck & Bus and CMI Hino Melbourne, requesting August 2019 as a guide. Recently Dale and I fixed on a date which is to be Friday 16th August 2019.

This is the end of a huge innings at the helm of a business which has grown very strongly and successfully under his stewardship over a period spanning nearly 23 years. Dale joined the company in 1996 at CMV T&B Campbellfield and quickly “put his stamp” on the business, helping transform the company into the powerhouse it has become today. He went on to assist with the relocation of our Clayton facility in 1998, followed a year later by the formation of our CMV Contracts business with Rohan Cook in 1999. Later that year, he moved the Volvo franchise to purpose-built facilities at Boundary Rd, Laverton.  In 2005, Dale helped identify a suitable future dealership site at Derrimut, where the dealership stands today. Dale was also instrumental in creating the dedicated CMV T&B Training Centre at Laverton. In 2006, he was again at the forefront, this time helping negotiate the acquisition of the Mack franchise and later UD trucks (2009). In 2007, Dale helped us purchase the Volvo dealership in Warragul and was then deeply involved in the build of a brand new facility for us in Traralgon. Later in 2010, CMV took over the VGA dealership at Albury. Whilst all this was going on, he was a key driver in building another new facility, this time at Wodonga which was proudly opened in May 2012. In November 2016, he presided in the official opening of the Derrimut Dealership, which was a very significant day for both CMV T&B and the wider CMV Group. I think you’ll agree, an amazing legacy of events.

Today, with over 500 employees and sales of over $400m, CMV T&B is a vibrant and growing business operating in one of the fastest growing economies in Australia. Much of the credit for our success goes directly to the leadership and direction of Dale. Fortunately, he has agreed to attend the CMV Group Melbourne Annual Staff Meeting on Saturday 7th September at which time we will formally recognise his contribution. In addition, in the week leading up to Dale’s retirement, selected sites will be holding an event to recognise Dale’s contribution. These are Wodonga (12th August), Derrimut (13th August), Traralgon (14th August), Clayton and Contracts (15th August) and Dandenong (15th August).  More details to follow.

Effective from 17th August 2019, Miles Crawford will be promoted to the role of General Manager, CMV Truck and Bus Pty Ltd from his current role as Derrimut Branch Manager. Ross Greig, currently Sales Manager Mack and UD, will take over the role of Derrimut Branch Manager. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating both Miles and Ross on their new roles. Dale Jackson has agreed to stay in a part-time external advisory capacity for 12 months helping Miles and his team through the transition.

I know that I speak on behalf of the Chairman, the Directors and the Crawford family when I say that we are truly indebted to Dale for his role with the CMV Group over his time with us.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Crawford
Managing Director

2019 Brisbane Truck Show

  • 24 May 2019

The CMV Truck and Bus team were excited to have the opportunity to join many of our industry peers and heavy vehicle enthusiasts at this year’s Brisbane Truck Show. With more than 300 exhibitors spread across three levels of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the bi-annual Brisbane Truck Show is the largest heavy vehicle truck event in the Southern Hemisphere and certainly one of our favourite events.

A record 36,921 people attend this year’s Show, all to experience the latest in trucking technology and be the first to see special new and soon to be released models. We were extremely impressed by all of the exhibits and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to learn more about the exciting models and technology which are to come from Mack, Volvo and UD Trucks.

“This year’s event was certainly special. It was fantastic to see the fabulous effort all the exhibitors went to showcase their exciting products and the large number of activities and activations across the city,” said Miles Crawford, CMV Truck & Bus general manager. “We were thrilled to see record numbers attend this year’s event and the diversity of the attendees including people from the industry, tourists, school groups and members of the public.” Said Miles.

This year, the Brisbane Truck Show highlighted several theme initiatives; innovation, safety, sustainability and community, which extended right through to road safety, technology, design, engineering and advanced manufacturing. Our team took the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Volvo Group’s exciting exhibit and learn as much as they could about the models which will be arriving in the future.

Ross Greig, CMV Truck & Bus Derrimut Mack sales manager said, “it was a great opportunity for CMV Truck & Bus team to see the latest concept of the Mack Super-Liner and Mack Anthem.” The new concept Mack Anthem challenges the expectations of aerodynamic design and includes tough engineering that dramatically improves efficiency. “We loved having the chance to walk-through the concept of the Mack Anthem – we are very excited to see this truck come to the Australian market.” Ross said.

Prior to the Brisbane Truck Show, Volvo revealed the all-new FH XXL cab which has been designed with a focus on world-class driver comfort. “After five years, the XXL Cab is the biggest and most exciting transformation within the Volvo product portfolio.” Said Rohan Cook, CMV Truck & Bus Clayton general manager. “It is great to see that Volvo have listened closely to the feedback from our customers and bring this project to reality. Not only have they brought this concept to life, but they have delivered beyond expectation to give drivers bigger bed space, additional storage and space to improve the drivers work and living conditions.” Says Rohan.

The launch of the new 8-litre UD Quon at the Show revealed its greater load efficiency while delivering the same great features and ultimate dependability as the 11-litre. The new 8-litre Quon features a GH 8 engine, which is 300 kilograms lighter than the original 11-litre models. Anthony Russell, CMV Truck & Bus Dandenong general manager said, “The Brisbane Truck Show was a great showcase of the all new 8L, 360 horse power UD Quon - the only Japanese truck with EBS disc brakes, crash mitigation and stability control.” Thanks to the 8L Quon’s UD Trucks standard tyre monitoring system, there will be no need for truck drivers to check their tyres. Also new to the UD Trucks stands this year, was the all-new medium-duty truck – UD Croner. “It was great to see a sneak preview of the new medium duty Croner and we look forward to seeing the Croner joining our UD Truck portfolio soon.”

The CMV Truck & Bus team are really looking forward to having many of these new and exciting models arrive at the dealership and we can’t wait to have the opportunity to showcase their innovative designs and futuristic technology to you.

Burdett's Plans to Expand with CMV Truck & Bus

  • 20 Sep 2018

Since our partnership with Burdett’s began in 2011, CMV Truck & Bus have been proud to assist them in becoming one of the biggest suppliers of landscaping products in the Southern Hemisphere.

Operating from their Langwarrin depot where they have a retail yard, wholesale yard plus three quarry locations, they rely on Mack and UD trucks purchased from CMV Truck & Bus to deliver day in and day out to their customers.

With a transport group of 75 vehicles, Burdett’s choose to use a range of UD models including MK and BK tippers due to their Volvo technology and their reliability to ensure they can keep their customer’s deliveries on time and offer a reliable service. As well as UD, Burdett’s include Mack models such as Metroliners and Superliners as they have the right truck for the right application which gives them the ability to service their customers with reliability.

Through our partnership, Burdett’s are given the ability to not only purchase the right truck for the right job, we have a tailored service maintenance contract package which works around their busy delivery and transport schedule to keep their trucks on the road and keep their customers happy.

CMV Truck & Bus are proud to be a part of their 2018 vision statement “the expand or to expire” and we know they will expand to even greater heights with their focus on quality equipment to ensure their customers’ needs are always met.

VISTA Semi-Finals Twist

  • 14 Mar 2018

The VISTA (Volvo International Service Training Award) Competion Semi-Final teams were announced last week, with the news that CMV Truck & Bus secured 4 places in the Australian/New Zealand top 10 (2 teams from Derrimut and 2 teams from Clayton), however we missed the qualifying top 5 cut. Our congratulations go to South Central Trucks who successfully placed 2 teams in the top 5, earning them spots at the Semi-Finals in Gothenburg next month.

However, in a surprising twist, Derrimut's Team #1 (Gavin Stowe, James Greenwood, Justin Westcott and Wafi Hussain) was picked from a wildcard draw today by Volvo Trucks International Senior Vice President, Heléne Mellquist. This makes them the 57th qualifying Semi-Final team, and we wish the lads all the best competing for a place in the Grand Final that will take place in Brazil at the end of June this year.

People and Parks Day

  • 20 Oct 2017

Today, through the assistance of the CMV Group Foundation, CMV Truck & Bus will join a range of bus industry stakeholders and the Victorian Government to launch a new environmental sustainability project in Melbourne’s west.

The People and Parks Day initiative on October 20 supports Parks Victoria’s 10-year Masterplan to rejuvenate the Werribee Park grasslands to provide sustainable, community parks and recreational facilities in Wyndham.

In association with the People & Parks Foundation, CDC Victoria and Volgren, CMV Truck & Bus have committed to investing a first tranche donation that will equate to $78,000 over 2-years on a revegetation project and other future park facilities with our bus industry partners.

The event to be held at Werribee River Park will raise both awareness and funds to develop a greener west. The Hon. Liliana (Lily) D’Ambrosio – Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change and Treasurer, the Hon. Tim Pallas MP will be involved in the official ceremony.

To be part of this Bus-led sustainability project, visit and donate. For every dollar contributed, the three bus industry partners will match your dollar equally. So if you give $10, your donation will grow to $40. Give $100 and your donation quadruples to $400 (up to our first tranche target of $35,000). It’s that simple!

The Crowd funding platform will go live from Thursday 19 October and closes on Monday 23 October 2017.

We’d love for your support as we play our part in ‘Delivering a Greener West’.
