CMV Truck & Bus owns and operates five dealerships located throughout Victoria, selling new and used Mack, UD Trucks, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses (Volvo Group brands).
CMV Truck & Bus is a division of the CMV Group, a privately owned South Australian-based company established in 1934, and has grown from an original staff of five to employing over 1,300 people, with substantial operations in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. CMV has over 80 years experience in a variety of markets including Australia’s automotive, commercial and agricultural industries.
The CMV Group actively supports the community through the CMV Foundation and CMV Staff Foundation. Since its formation in 1953 by the late Sidney Crawford, the founder of the company, substantial funds have been channelled back into the community with the primary aim to assist less fortunate members.

WHAT IS FAST-TRACK
The CMV Truck & Bus Fast-Track Automotive Apprentice Programme offers a fast-tracked Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR31116), which is a nationally recognised qualification through our own Technical Training Centre.
Our fast-track programme is an intensive 3 year course (instead of the TAFE 4 year course) that provides the theory and on-the-job components of a heavy commercial vehicle automotive apprenticeship. You will learn the knowledge, skills and applications required to begin a career as a heavy automotive vehicle technician working on Mack, UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks & Buses at one of our five dealership locations in Victoria, or one of our satellite maintenance facilities located throughout country Victoria.
The January 2018 Apprentice Intake is now open, click here to be our next Fast-Track Automotive Apprentice.
What are the wage rates for apprentices?
CMV Truck & Bus is covered by the Vehicle Manufacturing, Repair, Services and Retail Award 2010, and our junior and adult apprentices receive above award wages with access to overtime, shift and tool allowances.
CMV operates a unique competency based pay review system (six monthly), and subject to knowledge assessment and manager feedback, and each apprentice will continually have their wage adjusted in line with this review system. Further details available on application.
How long does the apprenticeship go for?
The CMV Truck & Bus system is a fast-tracked three year programme (instead of the TAFE 4 year course).
How does CMV Truck & Bus Fast-Track Programme compare to the TAFE apprenticeship training?
CMV Truck & Bus has its own Technical Training Centre with full time trainers. The TAFE course is a four year apprenticeship, in CMV's case, we have been in partnership with TAFE for many years delivering a special accelerated learning programme, which is why we have been able to compress the four year course to three.
How old do l need to be?
Anyone of working age can apply as an apprentice. Historically, the majority of our apprentices have been between 18 and 25 years of age.
Does CMV Truck & Bus employ adult apprentices?
Yes, we certainly do. We encourage mature workers to look at an apprenticeship as a new way of progressing their career.
I am half way through an automotive apprenticeship, can I transfer to the CMV Truck & Bus Fast-Track Programme?
Yes, however, subject to each specific application, in many cases some of the modules that you have currently completed may count.
Do I need to provide my own tool kit?
Initially, CMV Truck & Bus provides a starter tool kit that becomes the apprentices property and is paid for through the tool allowance system. Most Apprentices tend to add to their kit on an as needs basis and generally end up with a professional toolbox and set of tools during the period. CMV owns a range of special tools at each dealership for special jobs, which are allocated on an as needs basis to particular jobs by our technicians and then returned to the store.
Do I have to supply my own overalls and boots?
No, CMV Truck & Bus supplies laundered overalls, plus safety boots and other safety related equipment throughout your employment with us.
Can I choose where I work?
Yes, CMV Truck & Bus owns and operates five authorised dealerships for Mack, UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks & Buses, located in Clayton, Dandenong, Derrimut, Traralgon and Wodonga. In addition to this, CMV operates satellite maintenance facilities at a range of Victorian country centres such as Leongatha, Darnum, Rochester, Koroit, Cobden and Cobram. Positions are available at most of these locations for each apprentice intake. Please nominate your preference when completing your application form.
